A Disc Spring is a metal compression spring that is conically formed from a washer of sprung material. The shape of a disc spring lends itself to compact installations. The disc spring was invented by Louis Belleville over 100 years ago, but was refined by Alman and Lazlo in 1936 who published  a method of calculation which enabled the designing of disc springs with a larger dish. The advantage of a disc spring is that they generate a high force using a very short spring length and with minimal movement when compressed. Its conical shape gives an even annular loading, and it is ideal for use in modular systems of construction.
