Circlips and Retaining Rings

Circlips and retaining rings are essential fasteners for securely retaining shafts, bores and assemblies in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, offering compact, reliable retention with straightforward installation and convenient removal for maintenance and repair. External circlips provide strong radial retention on shafts and are especially ideal where high axial loads, lateral forces and repeat servicing are expected, making them a dependable choice for rotating and reciprocating components; internal circlips securely retain components within bores where space is limited and precise axial location is required, ensuring accurate positioning and preventing unwanted movement. Spiral rings deliver 360° uniform load distribution with no sharp edges, making them excellent for bearing retention, high-speed applications and dynamic loads where smooth seating and minimal groove stress are required to prolong component life. E-clips (E-rings) offer very quick assembly and cost-effective retention for light to medium duty shafts, ideal for snap-on applications and situations where access is only available from one side, providing a simple, low-cost retention solution. Snap rings (axial snap rings) combine robust axial locating with straightforward assembly using pliers, suited to heavy-duty, alternating load and shock-prone environments where secure axial restraint is critical. Available materials include carbon spring steel (phosphate or zinc coated), stainless steels (AISI 302, 304, 316), beryllium copper, phosphor bronze, and non‑metallic options such as nylon and PTFE for enhanced corrosion resistance, electrical insulation or specific chemical compatibility. Careful selection of the correct type, size and material, together with proper installation and groove preparation, ensures optimal performance, extended longevity and reliable safety in hydraulic and pneumatic sealing assemblies.
