HNBR

Hydrogenated nitrile, also known as HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber), is a synthetic elastomer with exceptional properties. It is produced by hydrogenating nitrile rubber, which involves adding hydrogen atoms to the polymer chain. Similarly to other materials there are multiple different compounds of HNBR, these different compounds will result in different properties, such as having a higher or lower temperature range as well as having better resistances to oils and overall having a better physical strength. The average temperature range of HNBR is -25°C up to +160°C, with certain compounds of HNBR being able to reach lows of -60°C.

Industries:

Automotive

The Automotive industry accounts for over 50% of all HNBR use in Europe. This is because of the strict regulations and standards in the industry that require certain parts and materials, like HNBR, to be more reliable and have better performance. You will find HNBR used for both static and dynamic seals, belts and hoses inside automotive vehicles.

Oil & Gas

With the different compounds of HNBR available and the process of making them, you are able to have a material with a higher oil resistance than others. As well as the great strength of HNBR it makes it a great choice in very harsh and challenging environments such as in an oil field.

Medical

Many applications in the medical industry already use standard NBR materials for sealing, however as these come with a shorter lifespan HNBR has been starting to replace them. Giving the applications less downtime and therefore more productivity. HNBR also possesses great chemical and steam resistance, this is why it is already being used in sanitary gaskets.
